Come Expecting
Psalm 5:3 In the morning, Lord, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait in expectation. . .
Sunday. . . A day we come church, have a nice lunch, spend time with the family. . . and get ready for the week ahead. I wonder, however, how many of us see a Sunday as a day when we get the opportunity to meet with the Lord?
We all know we don’t have to wait until Sundays to meet with the Lord, but something special happens when we meet the Lord together in prayer, in worship, and unity.
However, I believe that God wants to do something more in our hearts each Sunday. I believe that when we gather in unity to worship, we make space for the Holy Spirit to come and inhabit the praises of His people (Psalm 22:3).
But what happens when the Lord meets us in worship?
Our worship provides a place of meeting with God — a place for us to encounter His very presence and embrace His invitation to join Him as He works. As we focus our time and attention on the Lord in worship, proclaim His place of honour in our lives, and thank and praise Him for His eternal promises, we can expect God to intervene in our circumstances. God has promised to inhabit our worship, and He will. And when the King is present, all things are possible!
So, what about this Sunday? Will you come to church with an expectation that the Lord will meet with us as we worship? Are you open to allowing God to work in your life this Sunday as you come to church?
My prayer for all of us this morning is that the Holy Spirit would come and touch our hearts. That He would make himself known to each and every one of us so that we would fall deeper in love with Jesus. Because when we do that. . . we realise that we don’t have to earn anything or do anything for God to love us any more than He already does. We are blessed with a love that is free, with no strings attached.
So, as we come to church. . . let’s come expecting.
